Three years ago, a few Brody students had a vision of making an impact in the local community. The goal was simple: to improve the lives of children right here in Greenville who are battling deadly cancers. As a new organization building from the ground up, this group of students formed Pirates Vs. Cancer.
On April 23, 2021, Pirates Vs. Cancer will hold its 4th event on the campus of the Brody School of Medicine. To show support for pediatric cancer patients, students and others will shave their heads and cut their hair all to raise awareness of the needs of pediatric cancer patients here in eastern North Carolina. One hundred percent of all funds raised will directly benefit programs and services at the James and Connie Maynard Children’s Hospital here in Greenville and will be designated for the needs of pediatric cancer patients. These donations will fund crucial needs, such as upgrading medical equipment to provide these children with better and more effective treatments. Funds raised will also provide Child Life Services with the resources necessary to provide distraction and comfort items during mentally and physically difficult times.
