A state-of-the-art center for oncology patients and families that directly benefits patients at every stage of treatment.
A central location for incredible care
Allowing for a sustainable, regionally connected system of care, this new 418,000-square-foot cancer center and bed tower provides a central location where patients receive highly specialized care with expert providers and today’s most advanced technology. Features of the six-story tower include 96 inpatient rooms with nurse, patient and family zones, an imaging center, infusion and radiation treatment clinics, to go along with a pharmacy and laboratory facilities. Additionally, the Vidant Cancer Care at the Eddie and Jo Allison Smith Tower in Greenville serves as home to outdoor healing gardens, a resource room and conference spaces.
We are working with renewed commitment to prevent cancer whenever possible, diagnose the disease in its earliest stages and ensure that patients in our region have access to world-class care close to home.
The hub of inpatient and outpatient care, the new cancer center allows us to improve early detection while identifying new and innovative approaches to treatment and prevention.
Taking patient-centered design to new heights
Even in the design phase of this project, we sought input from staff, patients and family advisers on how best to achieve comforting layouts and color schemes. It’s all about helping families stay as close and as comfortable as possible during a stressful time. That’s why everything in our new facility is designed to improve the patient and family experience—from our healing gardens and natural landscaping to a specialized boutique for cancer patients, a conference space for support groups, a resource room and much more.
A six-story beacon of hope
Look at what Foundation funds are accomplishing, floor by floor:
- First floor – 140,000-square feet, with lobby, outpatient cancer clinic, radiation oncology, infusion services, patient support, pharmacy, lab, and administration office space
- Second floor – 48 inpatient beds and clinical support space
- Third floor – mechanical, electrical and support space
- Fourth floor – 48 inpatient beds and clinical support space
- Fifth, sixth floors –storage space and room for potential expansion
What do all these floors add up to? Hope. We’ve creating a flagship academic and clinical care center where the best teams in the world work together to conduct research, train the next generation and develop innovative treatments — with the goal of eliminating the barriers to cancer treatment for everyone.
Let’s come through for our community…
Unfortunately, cancer isn’t on hold while we bring this center to life. We broke ground in the spring of 2015, and we opened in March 2018, but we need to make sure we reach our goal — our patients are counting on us to come through. Help fund this amazing initiative, and let’s beat cancer in our community together.
