James and Connie Maynard Children’s Hospital at ECU Health Medical Center is excited about the opportunity to enhance services provided to children and their families by adding parental remote-controlled cars in our surgical areas, inpatient units and procedural rooms.
It is our hope to be able to offer these cars as an option for children to ride to any of these treatment areas as a way to help provide a sense of control and minimize fears. The cars would help give a sense of normalcy for our smallest patients and encourage them to leave their rooms and interact with others during their hospital stay. The cars would also be used as a time of celebration, where children could ride them at the time of discharge.
Being able to offer these cars as part of the therapy options would give our patients the opportunity to view the hospital as less scary and give family members a chance to participate even more in their child's care.
